End of season Freshman A report

with coach Allison Rogala
February 16

Q: How do you hope the players benefitted from this season?

Rogala: “I hope that the girls learned the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship on and off the court.”

Q: Are there any memorable games or game moments?

Rogala: “There are three games that are most memorable to me. The first was against Lincoln Way-East when we played them in the Batavia tournament. The fourth quarter of that game was one of the best quarters we played all season. We were down going into the quarter and then came back to win by two points! The girls showed great teamwork and sportsmanship which made the win so memorable. The second game was against Downers Grove North. The score was tied with 18 seconds left on the clock and we set up a quick play for a shot and scored with a few seconds left to spare. It was an exciting end to a close game! The third game was against Oak Park-River Forest at home. This was probably our best offensive game of the season. We moved the ball and executed our plays really well and everyone had a part in securing the win. We ended up winning by 20 and it was because of the teamwork that each player displayed on and off the court!

End of season Freshman B report

with coach Ricky Tymm
March 1

Q: What will you remember about this team?

Tymm: “I will remember two things in particular -- the developed maturity from each of my players and their support for one another throughout the year. We had some bad losses and some games where we came up just a little short. No matter the outcome, my players stayed engaged, committed, and supportive of one another. This is easy to do when you win a lot of games, difficult to do when you lose. My girls achieved this and that is a testament to their character, which I will remember.”

Q: How do you hope the players benefitted from this season?

Tymm: “I hope they benefitted by understanding the commitment required for a high school sports program level. I emphasized to the girls that this commitment would be comparable to holding a job, which many will have in the near future. Their punctuality and attendance was always expected and necessary if they wanted to maximize their playing time. Additionally, timely and proper communication was also demanded of them, as it will be for next year's teams. I believe players understood this better as the season progressed, which will prepare them going forward.”

Q: In what ways do you feel the team progressed?

Tymm: “Every team member improved and progressed their skills throughout the year. The challenge is the consistency which is more so heavily dependent upon their engagement during the off-season. I think certain players improved their quickness and speed and coordination. However, again, all these improvements are minimal because I always felt that the real improvements are made during the off-season which begins with workouts, practice, summer camp, and fall workouts. I hope to see my girls engaged with these sessions.”

Q: Are there any memorable games or game moments?

Tymm: “The Batavia Tournament game where we defeated Glenbard East 28-11 (Dec. 27). I taped the game and we watched the film during the following practice session. My girls ran our offense very well and we were extremely disciplined on defense. Watching this game and our execution really made us a more competitive team for the second half of the season.”

Mid-season Freshman A report

with coach Allison Rogala
January 5

Q: What have been the highlights of the season so far?
Rogala: “One of the highlights of the freshman A team are the number of comebacks that we have had. There have been several games where we were be down by large deficits and have been able to close the gap to make it a closer game. One game that stands out is the Glenbard South game. This was the third game at the Wheaton Warrenville South tournament and we were down 16 points at the half. The second half we started off strong with tough defense and were able to finish out the game outscoring Glenbard south 23-10 in the second half. Although we ended up losing by 3 points I was proud of the effort and teamwork displayed by the girls!”

Q: Are there any games that particularly stand out?
Rogala: “The Lincoln-Way East game at the Batavia tournament was probably one of our best games up to this point. We played Lincoln-Way East earlier in the season and lost by 5. The second time around we were able to win by 2! The entire game we were down and the team really came together in the second half to secure the win. It was an exciting game to watch and I was proud of the team for their effort, focus and sportsmanship during the game.”

Hinsdale South Tournament

Q: Evaluating the tournament overall, in what areas did the team perform well or make significant progress over the four games?
Rogala: “There were games where we had to adapt to a zone on defense and I thought we did a great job adjusting on such a short notice. I am hoping that we can continue to grow in rebounding and also becoming stronger offensively.”

Q: Any games you would like to highlight?
Rogala: “Our first game against Plainfield South is one I would like to highlight since it was our first win as a team. It was also a close game and I thought that the team did a great job handling the pressure especially given that it was the first game of the season!”
